The method is called palming, and it was first introduced by Dr William H Bates in the early 1900's. For anyone
who follows our research and writing, you will observe that much of our work focuses on eye muscle strengthening,
but as with any other muscle, a prerequisite to exercising any muscle effectively is to make sure that it is
properly relaxed in advance of having it work.
Dr William Bates, in his book, "The Cure of Imperfect Sight Without Glasses (1919)" is quoted as saying, "most
people, though by no means all, find it easiest to relax with their eyes shut. This usually lessens the strain to
see, and in such cases is followed by a temporary or more lasting improvement in vision.
Such is the case with palming. It is a very effective method of relaxing the eye muscles.
Palming involves placing your cupped palms over your eyes with your fingers in an interlaced position. The
objective is to block out light entirely, and to do so without making any contact with the eye itself. Once
you have your cupped hands over your eyes, you can open your eyes to make sure that there are no obvious points
which are allowing light in.
Now comes the amazingly easy part of your first step to natural vision improvement. Dr Bates confirmed through
his studies that one of the most restorative activities for the eye muscle is no activity at all; in other words,
to relax and remain in the palming position is actually one of the very simple methods you can use once a day or
multiple times per day immediately. This will put your eyes in a relaxed enough state that they are ready for
eyesight improvement techniques which begin to rebuild your vision to its original strength.
When it comes to palming, don't be overly concerned with right or wrong. There is no right or wrong timeframe,
there is no right or wrong technique, and there is no right or wrong result. The main thing is to find the time to
relax your eye muscles in a light free environment on some consistent schedule.
Very few people are aware of the simple, cheap, and effective methods available to anyone to take control of
their own eye care.
